<br />Tour, led by IHANC Naturalist Debbie Cash, of the nature center grounds.
<br />■ ButteMy garden
<br />■ Boardwalk through marsh area. Discussion of invasive plants. Marsh characterized as
<br />"dYsfunctional" and unhealthy by Jeff Evensoin; not conducive to educational efforts.
<br />■ Mention of watershed issues, potential marsh restoration impact on water levels, etc.
<br />■ How boardwalk and marsh are used by Debbie for programs
<br />W In wooded area, visited the big, gnarly old cottonwood tree, how it's used for teaching
<br />Walked past prairie garden and bee hives
<br />Wildflower garden
<br />Reminder that primary goal of the Planning Committee is a report with recommendations.
<br />■ Objectives and themes developed for discussion, leading to aspirations; review current status,
<br />resultingi in identification of the gap that's needed to fill which results in the recommendations in the
<br />final report,
<br />Marcy (el grade student) expressed need to revitalize exhibits, "rotate the stock" (not her words); shared
<br />a few other ideas she had
<br />• '`Suggested Planning Committee Goals (5/17/07)" — hand-out by Jake
<br />General agreement that list items #24 as primary (Review, improve and expand programming for
<br />all ages� Review and recommend restoration needs; Review and improve facilities and ground),
<br />with #5 coming in next (Improve promotion and awareness of HANC).
<br />Stacy asked if City had a goal of HANC being self-sustai�ni�ng/self-sufficient, and was told "no" by Lonnie,
<br />but that revenue-generating could be improved by the facility.
<br />Next meeting:
<br />• Jeff to discuss restoration plans at next meeting, and he will put the plan on the website as well
<br />(and send as email attachment to committee members?).
<br />• Brainstorming about Goals #24
<br />Meetings, will be held on the fourth Thursday of the month. Next mneeting on Thursday, June 28, 2007; 6,30 —
<br />,30, pm. at HANK C,. Future meetings.- July 26, August 23, Sept. 27', Oct. 25, Nov. 29; Dec. date to be agreed
