Jeff Evenson, with assistance from Jill Anfang, conducted a "design charette," a kind of brainstorming <br />exercise. Committee members present were randomly divided into four groups, with two groups each taking <br />one of two topics. <br />Each group was given an aerial photograph of the HANC grounds, two sheets of overlaid transparent paper, <br />and colored markers. '`hey were instructed to imagine the area now taken by the HANC building, the <br />boardwalk, ipaths and other grounds, as being either a location for "Arts Experiences" or for <br />"Adventure 'recreation Experiences." We were to "think about how the experiential design impacts the site. No <br />budget constraints — blank checkbook! Site design — anything goes, be creative! Design for an adult experience <br />— how can the site be used for the most rewarding experiences. 11 <br />After a period of brainstorming, each of the four groups presented its ideas, given here in a rather train-of- <br />thought manner as presented by the groups, a combination of Nancy's and Jill's notes. <br />a Adventure/Recreation Experience, Group 1 <br />• Corporate retreat center with rope course, observation tower with zip line over the marsh <br />• Deck with a gazebo <br />• Conference/baniquet rooms (also used for weddings, etc.) <br />*I Cl�im�binig wall (indoor/outdoor) (flooded in winter for ice rink?) <br />• Interpretive nature signs <br />Glass-bottom walk over the marsh [like that one, over the Grand Canyon] with a heated tunnel <br />Glass dome over the area — sticks out like the new Guthrie thing <br />Biking/ jogging trail with crushed limestone <br />0 Arts Experience, Group 1 <br />• Increase handicapped accessibility <br />• Welcoming pergola — gateway <br />• Outdoor classroom with easels <br />Jazz concerts along the boardwalk — seating <br />0 Audio included on weatherproof interpretive signage <br />0 Waders and "Wellies" (Wellington boots) available for borrowing <br />0 Ospray finest <br />0 Try to grow a patch of wild rice <br />White lights along paths for evening programs <br />Wi-fi hot spot <br />Plantings missed what was meant by that] <br />Webcarri(s) situated in key location(s) <br />& Adventure/Recreation Experience, Group 2 <br />I* Similar to group 1, with rock climbing, rope course <br />Groorned cross-country ski trails <br />Information signs <br />Galzebo <br />0 Yolda/meiditation/reading areas <br />0 Archery range.
