MEQUEST FOR, COUNCIL ACTION <br />I <br />Item No.: 5.a <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />a <br />Item Description: Minnesotans for Safe Driving Honors Two Roseville Police Officers <br />1� BACKGROUND <br />2 Minnesotans for Safe Driving was created in February 2000 by Jon, Geri, and Paul Cummings to honor <br />1 3 their 23 year old son/brother, Phil, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver on May 4, 1994. The <br />41 mission of Minnesotans for Safe Driving is two-fold: 1) to stop the senseless carnage on our highways, <br />5 and 2) to help all victims of traffic crashes. <br />6 <br />7 Recently, the Department of Public Safety (IMPS) named their first DWI Enforcer All Star Team <br />8 comprised of 32 officers, deputies, and troopers who led the state in DWI arrests in 2007. These <br />"heavy hitters" when it comes to doing their job. Minnesotans for Safe Drivinghas taken <br />officer s are <br />1 the LAPS recognition to the next level by officially recognizing those all star enforcement heavy hitters <br />1� 1 at the local level. <br />1 2 <br />1 Minnesotans for Safe Driving wishes to formally recognize two Roseville Police Officers: Aaron <br />1 4111 Craven (2006 recipient) and Brooke Jennings (2007 recipient) for their DWI enforcement activities. <br />1� 5 <br />1 6 Minnesotans for Safe Driving Founder, Jon Cummings, and Director/Victim Advocate, Sharon <br />1� 7 Lehrman- Driscoll, wish to formally recognize and show their appreciation to both officers by <br />1 r � presenting the officers with a plaque before the Roseville City Council. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />2(,,-,-), None <br />21 FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />22 None <br />23 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />2,1 Allow Minnesotans for Safe Driving to formally recognize Ofcs.
