this translated into was not only a hefty bill for replacing the pipe, but also a gigantic
bill for replacing the concrete. Just the concrete work alone was going to be $5,000,
all of which Ramsey County was going to hold us responsible for.
To dig the hole, fix the connection, replace the entire panel and other miscellaneous
expenses, the final cost was originally going to be nearly $11,000. When the plumber
from Roto Rooter found out about this, he felt terrible and cut us the best deal that
he could, but the bill was still $8,500. 1 diligently challenged the County on their
policy regarding the concrete replacement and they did finally OK having just the
5'x8'section replaced since it was on the shoulder. This provided some relief for our
situation, saving us $2,000, however the final cost of this repair was still $6,500.
When you include the previous expenses we incurred for having the line cleaned out,
we have spent just shy of $7,700 to get this matter resolved.
My husband and I moved to Roseville about 51/2 years ago with the intent to settle in
and start a family here. We had heard that Roseville is a friendly community and a
great place to raise a family. The folks we bought our house from lived here for 3,0+
years and raised their three children in our home. Roseville and what is now our
home sounded like just the place for us t. We love it here and are proud to live and do
almost all of our business in Roseville. My husband is an IT professional and I am a
stay-at-home mother to our 2 1- month old son, but hold a real estate license. We
look forward to staying in Roseville for many years to come.
Duane Schwartz and I have spoken frequently over the last year or so. From
February until October, Duane spent much time consulting with the City Manager,
City Attorney and other authorities about our situation. In the end, it was clear that
this was a matter than would be need to taken up with you, the City Council. Since
the fall, I have been quite ill and I am just now able to get caught up on some items
that have fallen by the wayside -- this issue being a top priority.
Neither my husband nor I are in anyway just looking for a handout or sympathy's for
sympathy's sake. Plain and simple, a bill like this is a serious blow to a single
homeowner and we believe there are extenuating circumstances that make this
situation unusual and not entirely our responsibility. We are asking for the City to
share the financial responsibility of this repair.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter and we look forward to your
response.
Sincerely,
Anna (and Bill) Kron
1221 County Road B W
Roseville, MN 55113
651-492-0479
