l <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date.- 9-8-08 <br />Item No..- 12.e <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description.- Community Development Department Request to Perform a City <br />Abatement for Unresolved Violation of City Code at 1782 Centennial Drive <br />1 BACKGROUND <br />2 • The subject property is one-half of a duplex owned by separate individuals. <br />3 0 The current owner is listed as Mr. John Stradinger who lives in the home. <br />4 0 Notices were sent in June,, July, and August, 2008, requesting repairs be made. <br />0 Current violation include.- <br />6 Severely fading paint on the west wall only (violation of City Code Section 906.05.C). <br />"7 0 A status update, including pictures, will be provided at the public hearing- <br />8 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />9 The City goals within the Comprehensive Plan are to protect and improve property values (Goal 3, 4, <br />1 4w. and 5; page 6 and, Section 3), and to adhere to performance standards which protect the integrity of the <br />housing units and the neighborhood (Policy 6, page 8, Section 3). <br />'12 FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />13 City Abatement.* <br />14 An abatement would encompass the following.- <br />1 0 Repaint the exterior siding on the west wall only.- <br />16 0 Approximately - $,1,500.00 <br />1 7 0 Total.- Approximately - $,1,500.00. <br />1 In the short term,, costs of the abatement will be paid out of the HRA budget, which has allocated <br />19 $,100,,000 for abatement activities. The property owner will then be billed for actual and administrative <br />2 ('_) costs. If charges are not paid, staff is to recover costs as specified in Section 407.07B. Costs will be <br />2 'i reported to Council following the abatement. <br />22 STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />23 Staff recommends that the Council direct Community Development staff to abate the above referenced <br />24 public nuisance violations at 1782 Centennial Drive. <br />Page I of 2 <br />
