Vk'�t "4 ? <br />ri * <br />The seventeen mile NE Diagonal corridor runs, from downtown Minneapolis, to downtown White <br />Bear Lake directly serving the communities, of: <br />Minneapolis Shoreview Gem La�ke <br />St. Anthony Little Canada Townsh* White Bear <br />1p <br />Roseville Vadnais He* 19 ea a hts White Br L�ke <br />A land use /transit study for the NE Corridor was, completed in August 2002. It evaluated the <br />potential for exclusive guideway transit service in the existing rail corridor. <br />The half mile wide corridor encompas,s,es, 9,500 acres, and is about 83% developed with much of <br />the vacant land containing wetlands, and other development challenges,. <br />The corridor has a residential population of 40,000 with some growth. Population density was, <br />determined as low and unevenly distributed. <br />The 2004 Metropolitan Council Transportation Policy Plan and subsequent Transit Master Plan <br />shifted the transit corridor to the median of TH 3 . <br />The Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority continues, to designate the NE diagonal <br />railroad corridor as an exclusive trans,itway. <br />The legislature established the opportunity for metropolitan counties, adopting a transit sales, tax <br />to participate in a new joint powers, County Transit Investment Board focusing on transit <br />guideways, and advised by a group called Gears,. Ramsey County voted to enact the sales, tax and <br />participate in the CTIB. The CTIB is expected to raise $1 million annually of new money for <br />capital transit investments,. Mayor Klausing was, selected as the Ramsey County suburban <br />representative. <br />The Metropolitan Council is circulating a Metropolitan Transportation Policy Plan update for <br />adoption by December 2008. The plan continues, the exclusive transit corridor in the median of <br />TH 3 , but designates, the NE Diagonal as one of 28 corridors, to be studied in the next two years,. <br />
