Department Approval <br />l <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date.- 9/15/08 <br />Item No..- 5.d <br />City Manager Approval <br />Item Description.- 200 -2009 SAFE & SOBER CAMPAIGN FUNDING <br />I BACKGROUND <br />2 The Ramsey County Sheriff s Office (RCSOI ), along with the New Brighton, Mound.sview, St. Anthony, White <br />3 Bear Lake, Maplewood. and. Roseville Police Departments submitted. an application to the Minnesota Department <br />4 of Public Safety to receive funds for the 2008-2009 Safe & Sober grant program. It's estimated. that the City's <br />5 portion of grant fund.s will be approximately $20,000. <br />6 <br />"7 Roseville's Sergeant Rick Wahtera will be coordinating the grant activities for Roseville. Rick has extensive <br />8 experience with coordinating efforts for Operation Nite Cap, scheduling traffic control details through the State <br />9 Patrol, commercial vehicle inspections, and. also is the Department's representative for AVC (a state-wwid.e <br />I auto theft prevention organization) . <br />"I'll <br />12 The fund.s awarded. to the Roseville Police Department will cover officer overtime and. squad. mileage <br />13 reimbursement. <br />14 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />I Upon approval from the Council to accept the City's portion of the grant fund.s, Sergeant Wahtera will <br />16 coordinate scheduling and. tracking methods to ensure adequate patrol coverage for all waves of the Safe & <br />I 7 Sober Campaign. <br />I FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />19 None.
