Department Approval <br />?f"7Aw" <br />,4*., <br />Rls�kspvlffi� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 05/19/08 <br />Item No.: 7.d <br />City Manager Approval <br />It2111 D2SCT'1pt1011: CONSIDERATION OF AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 1009, SIGN REGULATIONS <br />pertaining to signs which are affixed to City owned light poles (PROJO013) <br />1.0 BACKGROUND: <br />1.1 The Roseville Visitor's Association met with City representatives seeking allowance to place <br />welcome /event signs on City owned light poles. The Public works Director discussed the <br />request with the Planning Division and it was concluded that staff would discuss this interest <br />with the Council. <br />1.2 The City Council and City Attorney concluded that a text amendment to the Sign Regulations <br />chapter of the City Code was necessary to support such a use. <br />1.3 Public works Department and Planning Division representatives worked with the City Attorney <br />on the language amendment. <br />2.0 PROPOSAL: <br />a. Chapter 1009, Sign Regulations, does not support the sign sought by the Visitor's Association. <br />Thus the following language was created to be placed within Section 1009.03(8) creating a <br />number 14. <br />Signs which are affixed to City -owned light poles or standards which contain information <br />advertising the City itself or City events, provided the signs have been approved by the City <br />Council and City Public works Director or the Director's designee. <br />3.0 STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br />3.1 The City Planner recommends that the Planning Commission recommend approval of the <br />proposed text amendment as submitted by the City Attorney. <br />5.0 PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION: <br />5.1 on May 7, 2008, the Roseville Planning Commission held the duly note public hearing <br />regarding the Sign Regulations text amendment, at which meeting the City Planner sought a <br />modification broadening items within the right -of -way that could have signs approved on them. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
