Rs&spvl� <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Annroval <br />T�) - <br />Date: 06/09/05 <br />Item No. 7.1 <br />City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Approval of "Welcome to Roseville" Banner Locations <br />BACKGROUND <br />With the recent sign ordinance change allowing banners on city -owned light poles, the Roseville <br />Visitors Association is requesting authorization to place "Welcome to Roseville" banners along <br />portions of Larpenteur Avenue and County Road B -2 adjacent to Rosedale. The Visitors <br />Association has $3,000 into their promotional budget to provide "Welcome to Roseville" <br />banners. They are focusing on areas of high tourist and guest traffic that are adjacent to shopping <br />areas. Staff has worked with the Visitors Association staff in identifying appropriate locations <br />and light poles in these two areas. They are requesting authorization for 5 light poles on County <br />Road B -2 and for 9 light poles on Larpenteur Avenue, as shown on the attached location map. <br />We are also attaching a graphic representation of the banner to be installed. City staff will install <br />the banners on the poles. As discussed previously with the City Council, the cost for installation <br />is estimated at $50 to $100 for each installation. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />Staff is working with the Visitors Association and their consultant on sizing the banners <br />appropriate to the pole height and proximity to the street and sidewalks. The banners, if <br />approved, are anticipated to be installed before the 4th of July this year. <br />FINANCIAL IlviracTs <br />The only cost to the city is for installation of the hardware on the light poles and attaching the <br />banners. Total cost is estimated to not exceed $1400. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of locations as shown on the attached map for installation of <br />"Welcome to Roseville" banners provided by the Roseville Visitors Association. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />Council Approval of "Welcome to Roseville" banner locations on Larpenteur Avenue and <br />County Road B -2 as shown on attached location map. <br />Prepared by: Duane Schwartz, Public Works Director <br />Attachments: A: Banner Example <br />B: Banner Location Map <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
