In rooms with day lighting, such as solar tubes, windows, or other <br />reflective materials, people are more apt to not turn on the lights when they walk in a <br />room because it is lighter and brighter. Energy savings from day lighting are achieved in <br />two ways -- either from the reduced use of electric lighting, or from passive solar heating <br />or cooling. Another way to save energy on inside artificial lighting is to just turn the <br />lights off when you no longer need them on or when you leave the room. Light Emitting <br />Diode (LED) lights are currently too expensive and would not provide sufficient cost <br />savings to warrant changing all inside lights at this time. <br />Policy /Goal To use day lighting whenever possible. <br />Details /Action Identify areas that would benefit from day lighting. Research to <br />find best possible options that fit the budget and the building and <br />install wherever feasible. Some motion sensor lights are already <br />installed, but along with energy awareness, everyone should be <br />turning out lights when they leave the room or when the lights are <br />no longer needed.
