52 Commissioner D. Holt recognized that there is some confusion over what the Local sales Tax is <br /> 53 and what it would be used for. Acommunity-wide education process would be very important <br /> 54 to the Local Sales Tax Option consideration. <br /> 55 <br /> 56 6* DIRECTORS REPORT <br /> 57 o Council budget discussions continue. The Park Improvement Program (PIP) has been reduced to <br /> 58 $40,000 annually. it was hoped that we could retain some of the PIP funding to help support <br /> 59 parks & recreation maintenance staff through the renewal program.60 0 Commi*ssi*oners commented that the Parlic Renewal PRP i Program s essentially a <br /> 61 "super sized" PIP and the facilities and properties in the community got to this point <br /> 62 because of PIP reductions in recent years. <br /> 63 0 Commissioners recommended renaming the PIP because it is somewhat a misnomer <br /> 64 in that "improvement"tends to be viewed as new . improved. Roseville's PIP is a <br /> 65 maintenance program and should be identified as such PMP—Park Maintenance <br /> 66 Program. <br /> 67 o Roseville recently hosted"Navigating the New Normal", a panel discussion with local experts <br /> 68 who addressed current community issues. Most of the experts had ties to Roseville and provided <br /> 69 first-hand connections to the community. The panel recognized the significance of the Park <br /> 70 Renewal Program. <br /> 71 o City staff and community leaders presented at a recent Roseville Realtors Day. 40-50 local real <br /> 72 estate representative learned what makes Roseville special as well as other information to help <br /> 73 them sell Roseville properties. <br /> 74 o Council action—The Council passed the changes to the Park Dedication fees as recommended <br /> 75 by the Commission. <br /> 76 o Lonnie recently attended the National Recreation and Parks Congress in Atlanta. The annual <br /> 77 meeting and conference had strong connections to the importance of community engagement and <br /> 78 input and reinforced the style and process used by parks and recreation. Also of interest are <br /> 79 recent studies that have evaluated proximity to parks in relationship to level of physical activity <br /> ov and wellness. National research specialists have developed a community audit tool to help <br /> 81 promote the use of parks in relation to increased physical activity and wellness. <br /> 82 o OVAL is now open for the winter season. Over 80 skaters from across the nation took part in the <br /> 83 Americas Cup last weekend. These are the up and coming skaters and names we could be <br /> 84 hearing in future Olympic and international competitions. <br /> 85 <br /> 86 7 OTHER <br /> 87 o Congratulations to Erin Azer for being elected to the Roseville School Board. The other good <br /> 88 news is that Erin will continue to be a member of the Parks & Recreation commission too. <br /> 89 o Ri*stow suggested that Rosevi*11e resi*dents pay attention to their neighborhoods and make tire <br /> 90 tracks in driveways of vacant homes to help with the appearance that a place is unattended. <br /> 91 0 Mary Holt inquired into recent Reservoir Woods activity. People have been seen doing <br /> 92 unauthorized clearing of wooded areas for what is thought to be cross-country ski* trails.
