7 October 1981
PLANNING REPORT
CASE NUMBER:
APPLICANT.,
81-1343
Fairview Development Company
West of Fairview Avenue, South of County
Road C-2
ACTION REQUESTED: Special Use Permit to Produce Computer
Chips
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS.
Integrated Micro-Circuits Company occupies one of the pair of' off ice
buildings just north of the office warehouse building constructed by the
Roberts Company on the west side of Fairview Avenue. The building is
9,800 square feet and has 41 employees,.
3. The manufacturing of the integrated circuits is conducted in a "clean room"'
under conditions similar to that of an office.
4. Discussions with the City's Legal Counsel suggest that the manufacture of
electronic chips (some of which are used for medical purposes) is so
similar and less in scale than that of pacemakeis, that it can be
construed to be a similar and approvable use. Thus, the applicant is
applying for a special use permit under that section of the Code allowing
for the "electronic medical Instrumentation devices".
5. The Planning CoMmIssion and Council may wish to consider amending the
Ordinance so as to allow for similar such uses by specific reference in
the Code. Such an amendment might include: research, development, and
manufacture of electronic, computer, and other similar Instrumentation
devices,.
