Amy
Capitol City mutual Aid Association
Suburban Fire Fighters
Dear Mayor, City Manager or Clerk:
Over the past year, the trustees and officers of the Capitol
City Mutual Aid Association have been reviewing the mutual
aid contract to which your city is a party. This review was
completed 11 February 1981. Three changes were unanimously
adopted' -
Two of these changes do not change the nature of the contract,
One defines the words "fire department"; the other is a state -
ment of intent concerning use of the contract as a subsidy,
The third change may have an impact on your city and fire
department if certain pieces of your fire equipment have-not
yet been equipped with a radio capable of transmitting and
receiving on the state -wide mutual aid channel.
ince few departments use the same radio frequency, the
statewide mutual aid channel represents the only common com-
munications frequency available to fare departments for use
in a major emergency. Availability of a radio equipped with
this frequency is, in the opinion of the Association, essential.
There fore , the new contract which your Fire Chief will present
to you for execution contains a clause that requires instal -
lation of a mobile or portable radio capable of transmitting
and receiving on the statewide mutual aid channel on all, ers
um
of 1,000 gallons e p p
g * per minute or greater capacity, and on all
aer3-al devices within three years of the date-of execution of
the contract.
Most municipalities party to the contract have already so
equipped the fire apparatus described above, so this clause
may not affect your city. Your Fire Chief will advise you
further in this regard.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
r
ward ndersor Fr es .dent
Capitol City Mutual Aid Association
