46 both regular route and BRT, must be expanded to support the population and businesses <br />47 in our fast - growing region; and <br />48 <br />49 WHEREAS, courageous and visionary legislative leadership is vital to forging a <br />50 sustainable, long -term transportation plan for our state and region. <br />51 <br />52 <br />53 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that as elected leaders representing cities in <br />54 Minnesota's fast - growing 11- county metropolitan region, we hereby declare our belief <br />55 that transportation has become one of the most vexing problems facing our communities <br />56 and state. We call upon the leaders in the legislature to create a long -term solution to our <br />57 transportation needs and, in the short -term, in order to keep our metropolitan area <br />58 economy vital and flourishing, we call upon the legislature to exercise good judgment <br />59 and provide adequate funding for Metro Transit as well as all suburban transit providers, <br />60 namely Minnesota Valley Transit Association (MVTA), SouthWest Transit, Plymouth <br />61 Metrolink, Maple Grove Transit, Prior Lakes Laker Line, DARTS and Shakopee Transit, <br />62 so as not to adversely affect the ability of all of our transit providers, whether urban or <br />63 suburban, to move workers, students and the thousands of other residents who use those <br />64 services on a daily basis to get to their jobs, to school or otherwise engage in important <br />65 economic activity that benefits the region and the State of Minnesota; to not halt or <br />66 otherwise defer or delay progress on transit projects, including the Central Corridor and <br />67 the Southwest LRT; to do nothing legislatively that will impede planning for other rail <br />68 and bus rapid transit projects presently underway; to be mindful that adequately funding <br />69 our existing transportation system and having the foresight to continue the commitment <br />70 to both plan and build out our future transit system is critical to the well being of our state <br />71 and we urge the legislature to provide the kind of leadership and stewardship necessary to <br />72 accomplish those goals. <br />73 <br />74 <br />75 The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Member <br />76 <br />77 , and upon a vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br />78 <br />79 and the following voted against the same: none. <br />80 <br />81 WHEREUPON said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. <br />
