qASPAL+E <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />�?4� <br />Date: January 23, 2012 <br />Item No.: 5 . b <br />City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Acceptance of Granite Foundation Donation <br />1 BACKGROUND <br />2 <br />3 The Granite Foundation is a local, family foundation that provides assistance to non - profit <br />4 organizations and individuals that have temporary, minor, or a one -time financial need. The <br />5 Foundation provides resources to a multitude of people and organizations under various <br />6 circumstances and has previously donated funds to the Police Department. The Granite <br />7 Foundation approached the department with the offer of funding to support its mission of public <br />8 safety, and the department proposed that any available funds be used to purchase: a GP S web <br />9 based mobile positioning system; a Hewlett Packard Slate computer tablet; and, assistance in <br />lo upgrading the Department's current Integrated Biometric Identification System (IBIS). <br />11 <br />12 The Granite Foundation has donated funds to the Roseville Police Department in the amount of <br />13 $6,000. <br />14 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />15 The GPS unit and Slate computer tablet will be utilized by the Department's Investigations <br />16 division and IMPACT. The upgraded IBIS will be utilized by the Department's Patrol division. <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />BUDGET IMPLICATIONS <br />The $6,000 from the Granite Foundation covers the purchases and upgrade mentioned above. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />The police department administrative staff recommends the City Council allow the police <br />department to accept the $6,000 in funding from the Granite Foundation. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION <br />Allow the police department to accept the $6,000 in funding from the Granite Foundation. <br />Prepared by: Rick Mathwig, Chief of Police <br />Attachments: A: Granite Foundation letter <br />Page 1 of 1 <br />
