ITEM DESCRIPTION, Proposed Uniform Fire Code <br />E-14 <br />MEETING 9-8-80 <br />DATE' <br />It is proposed that the City of Roseville adopt by reference the State <br />of Minnesota Uniform Fire Code. The State is currently operating under <br />the 1973 edition of the code. <br />Roseville currently operates under the 1970 edition of the Fire Prevention <br />Code, It is not recommended that the Fire Prevention Code be repealed at <br />this time, because the matter of "storage of flammables" 'i's provided for <br />in the Fire Prevention Code. Additional study on this matter is needed <br />before it is incorporated into the Uniform Fire Code. <br />The principal differences between the proposed Uniform Fire Code and the <br />current Fire Prevention Code are as follows: <br />The Uniform Fire Code reflects newly accepted changes in <br />methods, practices and safety features. <br />2* The Uniform Fire Code is a state�-wide code. It currently <br />applies to Roseville, but under state enforcement personnel. <br />Adoption by reference places enforcement with the City of <br />Roseville* <br />It requi I res fire alarms in apartment buildi I _ngs of 12 units <br />or more, A survey of apartments in the City 'indicated approxi- <br />mately 60 apartment dwellings would be required to install firizz <br />alarm systerris. <br />The Fire Chief will be in attendance to answer any questions regarding <br />the proposed code,, <br />The appropriate action, if Council concurs with the proposal, is to continue <br />the proposed ordinance for final consideration at the Septernber 22nd <br />i7vie e t 1 ng . <br />Action Requested: Motion to continue the proposed ordinanc <br />adopting the 1973 Uniform Fire Code by <br />reference to the September 22nd meeting] <br />
