MEETING 6-9-80 <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: <br />Attached is a proposed ordinance regarding public and quasi-public uses when located <br />in a publicly owned building in the R-1 zoning district and also establishing criteria <br />for the issuance of special use permits in all zoning districts. <br />The attached zoning ordinance amendment was prepared in response to the Council's <br />concern regarding the potential uses allowed in public school buildings when such <br />buildings were discontinued for regular school purposes. A classic case, of <br />course, is that of the future use of Fairview Junior High School which we understand <br />the school board intends to continue to own, but will be occupied by varl*ous Public <br />related agencies, <br />The current zoning ordinance among <br />(all of the schools are zoned R-1) <br />bungs and similar public uses" <br />carefully quantify "similar public <br />sver use of the schools, resultirris- <br />ential area, <br />its list of permitted uses in the R-1 district <br />includes "churches, convents, libraries, city <br />It is the intent of this amendment to more <br />usesil so as to avoid what could constitute <br />in deleterious impact on the contiguous resid- <br />The ordinance also restricts the use of parking to that already accommodated o <br />the site.
