REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
AGENDA SECTION'. ORIGINATING DEPT./DIV.'
Communications & Petitions Public Works Director
ITL... NO.. ITEM DESCRIPTiON. Discussion of Skillman Avenue Width
Project P-79-2
MEETING 5 6.80
D AT E'
DEPT HEAD APPROVAL.
60
pia. 4
I
At the regular Council meeting of April 28, this poll was presented to the Council,
but due to the fact that only three members of the Council were present, the matter
was laid over to this meeting. Of the potential 51 parcels involved, signatures
representing 35 parcels signed favoring the 32 foot width with no parking; while 12
parcels favored 36 foot with parking and 4 parcelswere unrepresentedh
It is still the staff viewpoint that parking is preferable along the roadway due to the
heavy residential nature and this has been confirmed by both the traffic engineer with
Short-Elliott-Hendrickson Associates and the State Aid District Engineer, Itis fel t
the individuals currently residing in the homes may favor having no parking, but those
that move in in the future will find the need to have parking,as is typical on all the
other residential streets in the City*
It, therefore, is the staff opinion that a 34 foot roadway would provide far morz
flexibility to deal with potential problems in the future along this roadwa-v.
a
If the Council wishes to reconsider their previously approved 36 foot authorization,
then it will require a 4/5's vote. If a change is madethen a new resolution shouli
be passed approving the upgrading of the roadway at the specified width and declarins
that no parking would be provided on either side of the street.
