JORIGINATING DEPT./DiV.: I DEPT, HEAD APP40VAL, <br />Reports & Recommendations Adm <br />ITEM NO.: ITEM DESCRIPTION: On-Sale Liquor License ReferendUm MG REVIEWED/ RECOMMENDS'. <br />In accordance with Minnesota Statutes, the City of Roseville may issue up to 18 on-sale <br />liquor licenses. The City currently has approved 15 licenses for the following restaurants. <br />Paul's Place, Cicerols, Ninols, Holiday Inn, Ground Round, Red Lobster Inn, <br />Steak & Ale, LeBistra, Victoria Station, Last Frontier, Ole' Mexico, Roseville <br />Crossing, The Brothers, El Torito and Mother Tucker's (restaurant not yet constructed),. <br />During the past 2 or 3 weeks inqes have been received about on-sale liquor licenses <br />for LeSenorita, Michaelangelos and a new restaurant. In addition, the new owner of the <br />property on the northeast corner of Snelling Avenue and TH 36 is preparing plans for <br />devel opment, The proposed project may include a hotel and restaurant for whisch an on- <br />sale license may be requested. <br />The Council reviewed the statu5 of the on-sale liquor licenses at the September 15, work <br />session and instructed the staff fb place an it-em on the September 22, agenda for consider- <br />ation of directing that a referendum be held to exceed the number of licenses presently <br />permitted by Statute, <br />A4 innesota Statute Section 340,11 Sub. 18, provides as follows: <br />"Shall the City Council be allowed to issue lion-sale" licenses for the <br />sale of intoxicatina liquor at retail in adTition to the number now permitted <br />no <br />by I aw? If a majority of the voters voting on the question at such election <br />vote in the affirmative, the governing body may issue on-sale licenses in such <br />a number as shall be determined by the referendum,, <br />The first question referred to in the above section would allow the Council to issue an <br />unlimited number of licenses and the second question would set the number of licenses <br />tt a spedified number, <br />
