McCarty who lives at 1894 West County Road C -2 has applied for permission under the shoreline Zoning Ordinance to construct an artificial shoreline c ontiquou s to a portion of the shoreline of Langton Lake on the west side of his property. The proposed construction, if completed, in general will produce a 12 inch high wooden post gall creating a straight shoreline (perpendicular to County Road C -2) and extending the shoreline approximately two feet, six inches, to nine feet westerly into the lake, The construction has begun and was stopped by the City upon complaints issued by neighbors. The construction proposed is prohibited by the shoreline Zoning ordinance but a variance to these regulations can be applied for under section 18.260 of the ordinance. This section of the Ordinance establishes four critiera for consideration in reviewing the proposed variance. It would appear that the council would have the option of turning the proposal down , approving 'it, or may wish to refer the proposal to the Planning Commission for Public Hearing and consideration. We are aware that many of the neighbors are concerned, including some who have had a long time historical interest in the adoption and implementa- tion of the ordinance over the past eight years! Mr. McCarty himself was one of the strong proponents of the ordinance, supporting such legislation to enhance the preservation of Langton Lake.
