DEPT. HEAD APPROVAL,
Reports c-md Peccnniendations Public T4brks Director
ITEM NO.' ITEM DESCRIPTION' Anendxmnt to Section 66 of the City Code R. REVIEWED/ RECOINIME.
concerning connecticns to the City water supply system
Since the original construction work began on the City's water supply sysbmn,
the City has had the long range plan of having a system. that would supply water
to the entire community,, The sizing of the punps, =, tank, etc. has all
been predicated on this overall assuqtion. Due to the fact that many property
c%mers already had a private well system that was in good working order and
adeqiate to meet the. near tem needs of the cwnerp, however,, resulted in the City
allcwing these propqrty,,qqpes .p, c7tAvq #e:, -use, of their wells
-I# %
Vi?bonmat 4 dto
U
water. Tpo.r
While the City has not requested or forced anyone to abandon a well, we have
4
req=ed all new construction to use the City facility rather tan dig a new
well. Sim'larly, we have followed a policy of allaw:'Lng property awners to nmintain
their existing wells
', but have not allcwed new wells to be constructed to replace the
old ones. The mly exception to this has been if the individual has a physical
corx1ition wh3-ch can be demonstrated to be inconvatible w1th the City water supply
due to reactim tothe chemical treatment involved.
RecomTended Council Action: Mot-ion instructing the City Attorney to
prepare an amendment to Section 66 of the
City Code concerning the construction of
wells when City water facilities a avaJ_lable.
