2011 ROSEVILLE PARKS AND RECREATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />1. Operations <br />• <br />Collaborated with Roseville Gymnastics Board, Gymnastics Team and RAHS Gymnastics to facilitate new <br />and upgraded lighting in the Gymnastics Center <br />• <br />Updated Forestry Ordinance. Ordinance adopted by City Council <br />• <br />Expanded department volunteer involvement through partnerships with Opportunity Partners, Wells Fargo, <br />North Heights Lutheran Church, Roseville Area Boy Scouts, Roseville Area Girl Scouts and Roseville Area <br />Community Education <br />• <br />Relocated main department equipment and supplies storage from Fire Station 1 to Fairview Garages to <br />accommodate construction of the new fire station <br />• <br />Processed 3 816 online registrations, 6.5% increase from 2010 <br />• <br />Collaborated with Northwestern College to improve and expand field maintenance at Langton Lake Athletic <br />Field <br />• <br />Partnered with North Suburban Soccer Association to improve and expand field maintenance at Rosebrook <br />Park and Central Park Dale Street Athletic Complex <br />• <br />Utilized online tools (survey) to expand opportunities for community input on the Master Plan <br />• <br />Established online marketing presence for parks & recreation facilities using facebook.com and <br />googlep laces. com <br />2. Planning and Project Management: <br />• <br />Completed Parks & Recreation Interest and Opinion Survey using tool created in collaboration with Leisure <br />Vision. 761 surveys were completed and analyzed. Survey findings provided the Citizen Organizing Team <br />and Special Interest Work Groups with direction for the implementation of the Updated Parks & Recreation <br />Master Plan <br />• 90% of respondents had used or visited a Roseville Park in the past 12 months <br />■ 81 % of respondents had visited Roseville Central Park in the past 12 months <br />■ 34% visited Acorn Park and 32% visited Lexington Park <br />• 79% of respondents used or visited a Roseville Parks & Recreation Facility in the past 12 months <br />■ 42% had visited the Skating Center and 38% had visited the Nature Center <br />• 82% of respondents had used Roseville walking and biking trails over the past 12 months <br />• The top three park features used most often by respondents were; walking and biking trails, <br />nature trails and playgrounds <br />• 64% of respondents were in favor of investing at least $8 per month in additional property taxes <br />to improve and maintain their parks and recreation system <br />• 143 Roseville households participated in an elective online survey. Findings were remarkably <br />similar to the statistically valid findings <br />• <br />Utilized the insight and expertise of ten Roseville residents to create a multiple -phase implementation plan for <br />the updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan <br />• Over 15 months these volunteers participated in 20 plus meeting and provided over 50 hours of <br />analysis, research and discussion. Organizing Team volunteers also served in leadership roles for <br />each of the five Implementation Work Groups <br />• <br />Involved 150 community members as Implementation Work Group volunteers in the following special <br />interest groups; Natural Resources and Trails, Finance and Communications, Facilities and Organizations, <br />Constellation Representatives and Partners <br />• Work Group Members took part in 12 group meetings and provided valuable community <br />connections across Roseville <br />• <br />Facilitated citizen request to recommend $19.025M in Master Plan supported improvements to the Roseville <br />Parks and Recreation system <br />• Funding request supported by the City Council. Action taken to fund the initial project plan over <br />the next 4 years. Council support attributed to the extensive citizen involvement to the needs <br />analysis and project recommendations <br />• <br />Updated mapping process for Street Tree Master Plan <br />• <br />Successfully completed grant requirements and submitted final report for the Department of Ag EAB Grant <br />• <br />Partnered with Central Park Foundation to design "Wayfinding" signage system for Central Park. The intent <br />is this system will become the system -wide standard for directional and informational signage <br />• <br />Partnered with Roseville Rotary to improve drainage at Tamarack Park and install youth -sized soccer goals <br />3. PIP Projects: <br />• <br />Renovated play area at Evergreen Park including all ages play feature with fabric shade structure, concrete <br />curbing and safety fencing <br />• <br />Replaced Bennett Lake Fishing Pier using grant funding from the Minnesota DNR <br />• <br />Initiated trial system for trash and recycling removal using high capacity containers. This system is more <br />environmentally friendly and should cut costs and increase efficiency compared to more traditional systems <br />4. Muriel Sahlin Arboretum: <br />• <br />Began construction of "Edible Landscape" theme garden <br />• <br />Installed entrance area interpretive signage <br />• <br />Restructured maintenance staffing to allow for a permanent 3/4 time Horticulture Specialist <br />• <br />Benefitted from 150 hours of volunteer service from the Green Team <br />5. Maintenance: <br />• <br />Re- lamped athletic lighting systems at Upper Villa Park and Rosebrook <br />• <br />Facilitated Carter Geyen Memorial project at Bruce Russell Park. Completed site restoration work <br />
