.AXEQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
i.
1
The residents 66 the north side of Transit, West of Victoria,, haVe written the
council
requesting that they have the opportunity to review their
storm drainag
pro-blem
that affects the rear of their lots.
The basic problem is
that the rea
port-ion
of their lots was originally all part
of the Bennett Lake
area and.,as
such, is
wet and swampy. This has not been •
constant situation,
however.._ in
tilat in
other years, the water has evaporated
or percolated in the
ground3or
Clonlehow
been dissipated.
The very wet year we have experienced, particularTy with t4e extremely
heavy rains in late June and in July that resulted in water being considerably
higher than normal and of much longer duration. The owners are coming to the city
to seek relief to their problem-and have-the city somehow solve, it.
It would, therefore, seen that whil-e the very real Droblem exists, I't is not one
that the city created, or one which the city should'assume responsibility to unila-
terally correct. Solutions appear to exist to construct facilities to solve the
probleom, but these would require a storm sewer project and the assessments that
itiould go with it.
