This memorandum serves as that summary and I request it be <br />forwarded to the Council. <br />The Police Department forfeiture accounts are labeled under two names: Drug Forfeiture and <br />Alcohol Forfeiture. The Drug Forfeiture account holds funds forfeited for controlled substance <br />offenses and other "designated offenses ", as defined in Minnesota statutes. The Alcohol <br />Forfeiture account holds only funds forfeited for DWI related offenses. <br />Purchases made in excess of $5,000 require Council approval. <br />The 2011 summary information for both accounts: <br />Drug Forfeiture <br />• Beginning balance- $108,855.24 <br />• Ending balance- $147,433.81 <br />Summary of purchases <br />• Equipment and training for East Metro SWAT- $5,053 <br />• Upgrades to Patrol Roll Call- $3,679 <br />• Police Reserve appreciation dinner- $746 <br />• Records Management System upgrades- not included in grant- $6,804 <br />• In -squad computer- $4,114 <br />• Tow and storage costs related to a narcotics case not charged in criminal court- $3,565 <br />• Other nominal costs related to police services <br />Alcohol Forfeiture <br />• Beginning balance- $203,662.39 <br />• Ending balance- $251,415.05 <br />Summary of purchases <br />• City attorney fees related to DWI forfeiture- not included in prosecution contract- $9,514 <br />• Tow and storage fees of seized vehicles- $8,357 <br />• Costs related to alcohol compliance checks- $735 <br />• Other nominal costs related to DWI enforcement services <br />
