January 26, 1976, bids wexe received �or the purchase o� a street sweeper, <br />Funds for the sweeper were included in the 1476 budget for �he 3treet Dept. <br />A�ter xevi.ewing the Gity's exist�.ng operation. and inquiring into the available <br />equipment, it was determined by the sta�f that a new sweeper shou�.d having the <br />fol�.owing capabiliti.es: <br />A) The broo�n should he abie to operate at full power and speed wh�,Ie the <br />vehicte moves slowZy down the street �o provi.de for 1-pass cleaning and. <br />avoid repetitive passes on a roadway. <br />�) The machitte shou�d lx�.ve rhe ability tQ unload its sweepix�.gs '.inta .a <br />dump tiruck tahere th� mater�al would be transported to a disposal site, <br />thus allowzng the sraee[s�r ro continue its operation, ra�her than rc�nni.ng <br />back and forth to the d�spasal si.ts. <br />C) Thz machine should �ave approximately S4 galls more water carryzng <br />capabilitiy than our existing 180 gallon sweeper to av'oid tlie existing <br />probiem of haviz�g ta �il� the sweeper with water near the end of �he <br />day because of our �a.ck of storage abi�ity. <br />b) The machine s�iould have a diesel engine thereby providing added effi.cien�y <br />bg onlq using approxima�ely 40% o� the fuel uti.litzed by gas engine plus <br />providing a cnore durable, 3�onger lasting engine. <br />As can be seen below, praposals wexe received from 4 difierent suppliezs, <br />sc�me of which bid only the diesel a�.d no� the gas alternate, others bid an?.y <br />the gas, som� did not have tihe abili�y to operate the broums at ful� gow�r <br />ar have the proper amount of water sto7cage ancl oxte d�d nat have the ut�.loading <br />capability. The staff has once agaix� re-e�camined its above listed desires <br />for the equi.pment and have reaffirtned aur belief that each is desirable and <br />should be obta�ned. <br />
