The pubTic works mechanics <br />feel tha.t having a larger_engine is desirab�e to re�ieve the strain on the engine, <br />but it sfrould aiso be pointed out tha't these vehicles do noi rout�nely carry <br />heavy 7oads and that �t is not fe1.t -that there is $�-OQ to $500 diff�rence in <br />va7ue be�+rreen the smaller engine and that sp�ci�Ted, ihe council, there�Fore, <br />has the op'tion of de�laring that ��inor item and awar�finq the Ldhite ��ar podqe or <br />d�t�rmininq �hat it is a major item in the bid and declaring tne uvuc�e bid ta be <br />inval�d, thereby awarding to Rasedale Chevro�et. <br />As is noted above, the Rosedale Chevrolet bid o�F �6,105 has a smaller tire <br />than that specifi�d, but this faet was notpd in their bidding and the variation to <br />specs because of �he fact that their tire supplier does not mak� th� f�eavier t�re <br />desi red. Investi ga�i ons have found ���e coul d ihen purchase ti�e p�raper -�i res from a <br />d�fferent manufacturer, i�stall them at an added cosi of $50 per set, then use the <br />bid iires on other city vehicles wh�ch they would fit. <br />
