REQUESTFORCOUNC~AcnON

DATE: 10-25-99
ITEM NO.:C-ll
Agenda Section:
Consent

Item Description:

Application for 1999 Contractor's License

1.0 Background:

1.1 The City requires that all work in the City be done by licensed contractors.

1.2 Licensing is required for all residential building and remodeling contractors who provide only one
service, with exception of residential roofing and manufactured home installer contractors who
must be licensed by the MN Dept. of Commerce. Commercial building and remodeling
contractors are also licensed by the City.

1.3 Licenses are renewed on an annual basis. The licenses cost $25.00 per contractor.

1.4 Attached is a list of contractors who have requested 1999 contractor's licenses.

2.0 Alternatives:

2.1 Approve the list of contractors as listed.

2.2 Deny licenses of any or all of the attached licenses.

3.0 Policy Objectives:

3.1 The licensing of contractors insures that contractors have proper state or local licenses, have the
proper insurance, and complete their work in a workman like manner in conformance with all
codes. The City can deny or revoke a license for noncompliance.

4.0 Financial Implications:

4.1 Fees are obtained for each contractor license issued.

5.0 Staff Recommendations:

5.1 It is recommended that the City Council approve the issuance of contractors license for all the
contractors shown on the attached list.

6.0 Council Action Requested:

6.1 Motion to approve the issuance of contractors license for those contractors on the attached list.

Staff Report by: Merrilee L'Allier, Senior Office Assistant, 490-2238
Q: \Genera!
