The
poli locaions, ntmtber af registered voters axzd I:gzslative district for each precanct
are as follows:
Precinct
1
2
3

5
6
7
8
Location
R4cCarrons Lake Schaol
Norh Heights School
Lexingon. Because of this, the passibility of re-aligning preci.nct
ines an. chan.ging po11 locations was considered. OrzginalJ.y t was thought that some of
the pollng places shauld be relocated and that precinct bvdaries shou.d be re-aligned
so that the larger precincts, in terms of ntunber of vcters, coul.d b made more manageable.
(t shauld be nated that precincts 1, 3d 5, cannot be changed because their badaries
corxespon.d to legisative distrct boLmdaries).
In February of this year a meetang was held wiih the 8 preeinct.elecion judge chirmen to
discuss he advantages an.d disadvantages o£ each of their po1 locations and to svlicit
thei ideas about ad}ustzng precinct boundaries and changing po11 locations.
The sssion pxovided a good exchange af ideas. Alhough there was same feeling that rlocat-
ing aIl the po11s and re-aligning the precinct lines was worthy o further consideratian, the
daminant opinzon was that the existing po11 Iocations were satisactary and that prababy
the best course of action was to split precincts 2 and 4, creating a new precinet.
At a subsequent meeting wth the chairmen of precincts 2 and 4, i was felt that splitting
thase tt preeincts inta three was a reasonble approach to reduce the severe proble
experienced in 197A.
Various altexnatives were explored on how precincs Z and 4 could be split. It was the goa7.
to estabJ.ish three precincts of approximatey the same number of registexed voters. Six
alternatives, using we11 lmown streeis fox the praposed precinct lines were reviecred. It
becam evident that one alternative was far superiax to he others. Ths alternative wauld
create three prECincts having approxima.tely Z,406 votexs, 2,298 votexs and 2,147 voters.
The atachecl. map x;ba.t B) shows the proposed new precinct botmcaries. .
it is recammnded tha the nEw preci.nct be assigned the nber 9, alhough it wil7. be ou of
flrder in terms of the xumbering system. This was done to avoid changing the numhers of the
other precincts which wauld only i:ncrease the corfusion £or the voters.
{continued
