REVIEWED/RECOMMENpS: <br />On August l, �h� Palice Department Pistol F,ange i,ra.s shut down as a result of a <br />ventila�ion problem whzch created the possibility of a severe health hazard, The <br />matter was brought to our attention after �the St. Paiil Police Department Pistol <br />Range tivas examined by �ederal Safety �fficers and foun�.failing in the ventilation <br />requiremen�s due �o an excessive ainount of Iead particles zn the air. <br />After receiving notice of the 5't. Paul situatzon, the C�ty'S range was exa�ned <br />by a safety consultant provided by our insurance agent. His conclusion was that: <br />1) The present ventila�ion system is inadeaua�e and presents an irrmiediate <br />heaith hazard. <br />2) The existin.g design does not meet federal �ec�uirem�nts. <br />3) The range should be ciosed un�il neceasary changes and rearrangemenis are made. <br />The Range Officer has obtained proposals fram three ventilation companies for makir3.g <br />necessary changes in arrangements. The �ampanies and their bids are Iis'ted below: <br />Dayton's Bluff Sheet Metal, Inc, $3,588.Q0 <br />Acme Sheet Metal Company 3,830.00 <br />A7.bers G�eet Meial F Ventilating Co. 3,950.Q0 <br />Although ftinds £or this pxaject were not included in the 1975 Budget, fi.mding is avail- <br />able through the Police Departsnent Budget or through the Police Re�.ief Fund. <br />If the Coiu�.cil decides that this woxk is necessary, the staf£ w�ll contact Bexgstedt, <br />jVahlberg �, Berquis�, architects for th� gaxage, and attempt to receive a contribu.tion <br />�rom them. The City Attorney has advised that it is his feel.ing that the arc.hitects <br />of the range are lzable for a portion af the remodel�ing costs. <br />The sta££ wi1.1 keep'the Coun.ciJ. i.nform�d on. the progress of thzs negotiation with <br />Bergstedt, Wahlberp F� Bergquist. <br />Recommended Action: N�ation authorizing the Mayar and <br />_ P-�anager to enter into an agreer�ent <br />with Dayton Bluff Sheet Metal Company <br />for the re�delling of the Roseville <br />pistol range in the amolmt of $3,588.QQ. <br />
