City Council Regular Meeting - 08/23/04 Minutes - Page 14 Mr. Miller, at the request of Councilmember Ihlan, reviewed recourse available to the City if an employee were to make erroneous charges while using the City's purchasing card; and discipline procedures in place in accordance with federal, state and local laws. Mr. Miller estimated that approximately one- third of the City's employees were authorized to make purchases of any kind. Councilmember Kough reiterated his opInIon that the fewer credit cards available and used by staff, the more savings would be realized. Mr. Miller respectfully disagreed that less use of purchasing cards would save the City substantially, noting the evolutionary purchasing policies of the City, training of employees authorized to make those purchases, and the increased capabilities in using available electronic alternatives. Klausing moved, Kough seconded, to direct staff to report on the feasibility of providing funding name and account identification on purchasing card statements as currently provided on the check register. Al Sands, 2612 Aldine The Chair apologized, but did not recognize anyone for public comment related to this item due to the remaining time- consuming agenda items; noting the Council would receive public comment following the meeting on an individual basis, or at the next regular meeting of the City Council.
