Councilmember Kough responded to the presentation by opining that no new information had been presented relevant to his decision-making process; and he was basing his decision, as his duty and obligation, on the evident preference of public opinion. Mayor Kysylyczyn opined that, with all due respect, there were a number of people expressing their opinion associated with personal politics, but did not necessarily represent the majority. Ms. Sobola, 1961 Ramline Avenue N. Ms. Sobola asked to make comment, as she had been away from the community when the Public Hearing had been held. Ms. Sobola spoke to the citizens' right to vote, citing as an example the hard-won rights of African Americans and women in winning the right to vote. Ms. Sobola stated that she was in support of continuing the municipal Primary election; and asked the City Council to "do the right thing" in supporting that position. Mayor Kysylyczyn responded to Ms. Sobola's comments by questioning their relevance to the discussion. Councilmember Schroeder commented on his interest in the Primary election topic; expressed disappointment in unwillingness of the public to research and have accurate information prior to making a decision, rather than basing decisions on opinions and emotions; and opined that, if it should become necessary, for budget reductions, to eliminate the Primary election or layoff staff, he would support elimination of the Primary election. Councilmember Schroeder expressed an interest in continuing discussions and having more information provided. Councilmember Klausing stated that he was ready to vote, and asked Mayor Kysylyczyn to call the question.
