Pa~~: 1 of 1
®risc~ll, Margaret
F
From: .`<: ~_ , _ ~~ ~-
Sent: Saturday, August 16, 2003 2:49 PM
To: city.council@ci.roseviiie.mn.us
Subject: Leaf Program
I support continuing the leaf program, in accordance with the advice and reasons given for
continuing the program by your Public Works Commission.
As I understand it, they recommended not only continuing the program but making it free
in order to get people to use the service, and keep our roads and gutters clean and free from
the leaves in the fall. If I recall correctly, the concluded that the savings from the program
would be in excess of $40,000, so the net related costs would be minimal on a per household
basis.
It seems to me you set up commissions to study issues and make recommendations to
the Council. If you are not going to follow their advice, please explain why.
Also, there are some, perhaps not many, that would have a distinct hardship to hand pack
and carry away their leaves. Some homes have wooded lots. I'm estimating my daughters
place might need to fill up around 50 to 100 bags, and then where do we take them?
If you are planning to close down the existing leaf drop off on C and Dale, you need to
relocate one somewhere. Too many people need a place to drop off their leaves. Of course, if
you offered everyone in the city free pickup, that may alleviate that situation. Most people
would prefer the option of pick up by the city ,free or for fee, and also a place to drop off free
as we have now.
If you drop the leaf pickup program, the City needs to develop a private source ,for those
who have tree filled lots, that can be called and used to get rid of large loads of leaves.
In my opinion, the city may be creating more problems than it is solving by discontinuing
the leaf pick up program.
~~Sanc~s
8/18/2003
