Regular City Council Minutes -10/13/03
Page 15
Community Development Department, in response to
potential cancellation of future Council meetings.
Mr. Beets noted that advertising for Public Hearings had
already been processed for several cases at the October 20,
2003 meeting; but that at Council direction, staff would
accommodate the remaining business for those dates
selected.
Discussion ensued among Councilmembers and staff for
potentially reducing the meeting schedule for the
remainder of 2003 with outstanding business coming
before the Council (i.e., Truth in Taxation requirements;
certification of delinquent utility accounts; and
modification of the Arona Tax Increment Financing
District).
Councilmember Kough expressed his opposition to
canceling scheduled meeting dates, opining that as elected
officials, the City Council was obligated to hold the
scheduled monthly meetings, and should not deviate.
Mayor Kysylyczyn agreed in theory with Councilmember
Kough, but cited upcoming budget consolidation and
adoption needs, and not meeting if there was no business
to conduct.
Councilmember Schroeder expressed support of reducing
the size of meeting agendas to conclude business at a more
reasonable hour.
Councilmember Klausing concurred with Councilmember
Schroeder's comments, opining that he preferred making
decisions at an earlier hour, but supported canceling
meetings if not needed.
Mayor Kysylyczyn sought comment from Finance
Director Miller related to his ability to provide the
requested budget information and summaries in the
November 13, 2003 Agenda packet for Council
as the First Council
Meeting of the Negt
Year.
