<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 11/24/03 <br />Page 35 <br /> <br />Councilmember <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />Maschka <br /> <br />requested <br /> <br />staff s <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation Director Brokke advocated for <br />continued operation of the wading pool, citing the amount <br />of use it received; other maintenance issues if operations <br />were suspended; and the repairs performed that alleviated <br />the problem. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn opined that suspending operations at <br />the pool was not a viable option at this tilne, since it had <br />been repaired, recommending that the $6,000 could be <br />realized elsewhere. <br /> <br />Councilmember Klausing spoke In opposition to the <br />motion. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br /> <br />Ayes: Schroeder <br />Nays: Maschka, Schroeder, Kough, Klausing and <br />Kysylyczyn. <br /> <br />Su gested Reduction <br />Suspend Police CADET progran1 <br /> <br /> <br />ested Amount <br />$15,000 <br /> <br />Kysylyczyn moved, without a second to suspend the <br />Police CADET pro graIn for a cost reduction of $15,000. <br /> <br />Finance Director Miller noted that the $15,000 represented <br />the entire cost of the program. <br /> <br />Councilmember Klausing expressed reluctance to support <br />the motion, given Police Chief Sletner's comments <br />regarding use of this program for recruitment efforts for <br />full-time officers. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn noted that the reduction represented <br />the entire wage, and it would be problematic to reduce the <br />program; further noting that the Police Chief had two <br />unfunded officer positions in existence at this time. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets noted that the department was at full <br />
