there may be costs and issues involved in getting something like this started, so I'm in
favor of setting aside enough for keeping the pool open next year with the understanding
that the Parks & Rec Commission, and others, will need to review and propose a plan before
The next set of budget rounds for 2005

Suggested Reduction: Reduce or Suspend Summer Park Bike Patrol
suggested savings: $10,000

The benefit for this item is hard to measure and I suppose you'll need to cut somewhere
among all the items on the list. But I'd like to retain the patrolling for high impact
times such as Rosefest. And I'd like to get a push for more volunteer efforts, maybe the
police explorer post, to pick up the slack.

Additional Item outside of Parks & Rec items to consider: Upcoming council vacancy
position election(?)

I noticed that one of the items up on the chopping block is the elimination of holding a
primary. That mayor may not be a good ideaj I didn't follow the effort of the council to
look into this earlier. But it seems recently that the council voted to have a special
election to fill the council vacancy seat as Craig Klausing becomes mayor.

It seems to me that if there is a big concern for saving money, we should follow the past
policy of having the remaining council members make an appointment. And I would think that
the persons that came in second for mayor and second for city council would be the prime
candidates. Most likely, one of them would be voted in anyway if they chose to run. And
if they chose not to run, most likely it's because they don't want to go through the
whole campaigning cycle like they just did, given the expense and the fatigue associated.
So why not make them the short list and appoint one of them?

egards,

Richard "Jake" Jacobson
1664 Millwood, Roseville

Preferred email address: -'- -1 . 4-"~~I~ltlfll'T'~1- .1.....,

2
