Joint Study Session- April 8, 2006 City of RoseviIlel Roseville Area Schools What Would We Lose? Group Red I. Lots of angry people who will miss community ed options 2. Many seniors who lack place of connecting 3. Diminished quality of life - early childhood, adult ed, seniors 4. Loss of senior center, meeting rooms, community ed, pool, rec facilities, would mean loss of local connection. Would break up existing community interactions. 5. The less affluent/less social group of citizens would go without these opportunities. 6. Would increase loss of centering for our community and defining our community. 7. Loss of indoor and outside space for all of us. 8. It would create a big hole. 9. Loss of part of our community identity. 10. Would fragment out community interaetions with each other. 11. Loss of the district's "hub" for educational development - meeting space (for us and others) 12. Loss of meeting space of regional educators 13. Diminish our community compared to others. 14. Limit our ability to attract people into our eommunity to live. 15. Negative effects on property values. 16. Sadness and sense of loss by our community members. 17. Diminished sense of the eommunity's sense of self-worth. 18. Limiting the active living part of peoples' lives. 19. Loss of intergenerational and cultural interaction. Group Green 1. Program offerings compromised 2. Loss of place to create a sense of community. 3. Those at margins would lose out (ECFE, senior programs Adult High School, others than that not a significant difference. 4. Define what a community center is. Not sure this building is a community center. 5. Expand the model of a community center. 6. Loss community center is a loss of focus for the community 7. Focus community on health and over 50 activities 8. Community center create happy vision 9. Not competitive for young families (have competing centers) 10. Helps pull us together as a community - common ill
