Summary of Suggestions
May 8, 2006, Roseville City Council Public Hearing
Comments of Gary Grefenberg on Community Visioning

Add as a Project Deliverable a Community Vision and Value Statements

Develop a more realistic schedule. Add time at the beginning schedule for
community notification and outreach. Consider scheduling a Community
Brainstorming Session after the summer.

Process should be transparent and open in all its activities. Consider allowing
residents to participate in more than one subcommittee (raise limit to two
subcommittees?)

The substance of policy discussion and recommendations in the Visionary process
should occur in Brainstorming Sessions and Subcommittee meetings, not in the
Steering Committee.

Be clear at the beginning of the limits of the Community Visionary process. Elected
officials need to make all final decisions.

In these ways recognize and deal with public paranoia and cynicism.

Change proposed organizational structure to let residents decide for themselves what
Subcommittees they will work on. Reconsider current limit on one subcommittee per
resident.

Add to Subcommittee structure a Suburban Design/Planning Subcommittee.

Add a Citizen Participation and Civic Governance Subcommittee.

Keep process and structure open and flexible until you have a Consultant on-board
and can get his/her input.
