<br />City Council Study Session - 05/15/06 <br />Minutes - Page 8 <br /> <br />School Districts, County, and State) on local budgets and <br />spending plans. <br /> <br />Staff was directed to proceed as discussed. <br /> <br />3.c <br /> <br />Goal 2: Address and Maintain Determinant of Quality <br />of Life, Systematically and Proactively rather than <br />Piecemeal and Reactively <br />Fire Chief Rich Gasaway reviewed the Council-directed <br />goal to: "Address and maintain determinants of quality of <br />life, systematically and pro actively rather than piecemeal <br />and reactively." <br /> <br />Chief Gasaway reviewed measurable and non-measurable <br />determinants for defining quality of life issues, the <br />tangibles and intangibles; and provided 16 possible action <br />steps, listed randomly, as a framework for future <br />discussions. <br />1 ) Well-maintained, easy-to-traverse transportation <br />infrastructure; <br />2) Well-maintained public and private properties <br />ensuring property values remain competitive in the <br />market place; <br />3) Ensure enforcement of codes and laws that <br />contribute to the deterioration of neighborhoods <br />(i.e., speeding, noise ordinance, housing <br />maintenance, etc.) <br />4) Well-maintained parks and recreation system that <br />provides a wide variety of recreational <br />opportunities for all ages; <br />5) A highly-rated public school system that is able to <br />attract students to the district based on the quality <br />of education; <br />6) Access to arts and cultural opportunities; <br />7) Promoting diversity; <br />8) Quality natural and open spaces supported by <br />environmentally friendly water management <br />practices; <br />9) Employment opportunities that offer head-of- <br />household wages; <br />10) Variety of retail shopping and restaurant choices; <br /> <br />Goal 2: Address <br />and Maintain <br />Determinant of <br />Quality of Life, <br />Systematically and <br />Proactively rather <br />than Piecemeal and <br />Reactively <br />
