<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 06/12/06 <br />Minutes - Page 5 <br /> <br />new residents, or anticipated residents, to provide input into <br />the visioning process; and discussion and idea-sharing with <br />other communities and their Planning Commissions. <br /> <br />Planning Commissioner Doherty noted the need for the <br />City Council to approach other communities for their <br />feedback regarding planning issues, given the hesitancy of <br />Planning Commissioners to get involved with other <br />communities outside their charge from their respective City <br />Councils. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing suggested that the Planning Commission <br />use staff as a source of information exchange with other <br />communities. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing expressed concern that, if one <br />Commissioner representative attended the Council meeting, <br />they may not express the view of the full body, but their <br />personal view, if it happened to be in opposition to the <br />majority vote and recommendation. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan suggested that the Commission <br />consider additional communication with the community <br />prior to a Public Hearing on a large project to allow for <br />more input. Councilmember Ihlan suggested a <br />development newsletter or more use of the website to alert <br />the public. <br /> <br />City Planner Thomas Paschke noted that the City didn't <br />have a project until staff received an application; and <br />advised that staff tried to encourage as much <br />communication as feasible, by the developer and staff, once <br />a solid project was applied for. Mr. Paschke noted <br />developer involvement with neighborhoods through <br />informational meetings; and further noted that July would <br />be staffs first attempt to get a draft agenda on the web site <br />for upcoming projects. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mary Bateman reviewed various <br />communications methods in place, including community <br />meetings held by a developer; and signs posted on <br />
