REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 03-25-02 <br />ITEM NO.;VIII, H. <br />.epar~4m~nt Approval: Manager R. viewed: Agenda Section: <br />,~ ,~ <br />~,~ ~._ j~ ~~ ~~"` . ~ ~,j:~- f ~ ~,~'.:~..~ Consent <br />. , _ ~: <br />. ~ . ... <br />Rein Description: Application for 2002 Contractor's License <br />1.0 Background: <br />1.1 City Code Section 307.01 requires that all construction work in the City be done by licensed <br />contractors. <br />1.2 City Licensing is required for all residential and commercial building and remodeling contractors <br />(including sign contractors) with the exception of contractors who are licensed by the MN Dept. of <br />Commerce. <br />1.3 Licenses are renewed on an annual basis. The City currently has 237 licensed contractors at <br />$25.00 each. ($5925.00). <br />1.4 Attached is a list of contractors who have requested 2002 contractor's licenses. <br />2.0 Alternatives: <br />2.1 Approve the list of contractors as listed. <br />2.2 Deny licenses of any or all of the attached licenses. <br />3.0 Policy Objectives: <br />3.1 The licensing of contractors insures that contractors have proper state or local licenses, carry <br />required proper insurance, and complete their work in conformance with State and City codes. <br />The City can deny or revoke a City license for noncompliance. <br />4.0 Financiallmplications: <br />4.1 Fees are obtained for each contractor license issued. <br />5.0 Staff Recommendations: <br />5.1 It is recommended that the City Council approve the issuance of contractors license for all the <br />contractors shown on the attached list. <br />6.0 Council Action Requested: <br />6.1 Motion to approve the issuance of contractor's licenses for those contractors on the attached list. <br />Staff Report by: Merrilee Smith, Senior Office Assistant, 490-2238 <br />o:lGeneral Correspondence\MerrlieeL\C_ETTERS\RCAcontr.doc <br /> <br />
