<br />City Council Minutes 04/29/02 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />indicated that the federal EP A is studying crematory <br />emissions and regulation; that EP A study is not expected <br />to be completed until 2005. He urged caution. <br />Klausing asked if an environmental assessment now <br />finding no significant public health impairment would <br />affect his position. <br />Chris Beardsley, resident, indicated the neighborhood is <br />strongly against a crematory. He underscored the <br />magnitude of the unknowns. <br />Gale Pederson, resident, spoke to the puliic health <br />concerns in the neighborhood. She urged no action until <br />comprehensive OSHA and EP A studies were completed. <br />Schroeder asked how a lawsuit based on the crematory <br />issue would proceed and what remedy might be granted. <br /> <br />Kough asked for a couple of weeks to weigh everyone's <br />inpu t. <br />Schroeder indicated he personally had no difficulty with <br />a crematory, but that he had a duty to represent residents <br />and their concerns. Kough concurred. <br />Radio indicated Roselawn would wait two weeks before <br />taking any action. <br />Klausing suggested that Roselawn work closely with the <br />neighborhood, such as through neighborhood meetings. <br />Radio agreed. <br /> <br />Tom Pickton, resident, expressed his fear about <br />monitoring a crematory operation. <br />Fred Rousch, resident, spoke about a for-profit industry <br />operating on tax-free property. <br /> <br />Kough indicated the Council would consider input for <br />about two weeks. <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />Components of Police Department and Public Works <br />Facility Improvements <br />Beets, Schwartz and Mathwig presented. <br />Maschka supported the kind of functional need approach <br />demonstrated in the Council packet. <br />Schroeder was concerned about the relocation of a <br />portion of Civic Center Drive.
