<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 08/28/06 <br />Minutes - Page 27 <br /> <br />the City Manager's recommended budget totaling $33,500 ((Le., <br />rink protective netting; arena door replacement; south entry door <br />replacement; Oval light bulb replacement; refrigeration <br />maintenance; scoreboard maintenance; and skate park equipment <br />repairs ). <br /> <br />Park Maintenance <br />Mr. Brokke noted that budget impact items included personnel <br />related costs; increase in cost of fuel; inflation and an increase in <br />the cost of supplies; unforeseen repairs; vandalism; and <br />equipment breakdowns. <br /> <br />Park Improvement Plan (PIP) <br />Mr. Brokke noted the rising costs of materials and labor; <br />magnitude of projects that need to be completed and insufficient <br />funds to do projects all the way (i.e., shelter replacements, tennis <br />court renovations); attempting to spread dollars further into all <br />areas of parks systems; and finding innovative ways save dollars <br />and work with neighbors on different approaches. <br /> <br />Activity Centers (City Hall, Fairview Center, area <br />gymnasiums) <br />Mr. Brokke briefly reviewed a number of community activity <br />centers and their impacts to the Parks and Recreation Budget. <br /> <br />Cedarholm Golf Course <br />Mr. Brokke noted that the Golf Course as relatively stable, <br />operating with a fund balance, and plans were for additional <br />signage and other improvements for City Council consideration. <br /> <br />Mr. Brokke summarized the total budget requests, with 53% of <br />the expenses supported by non-tax dollar revenues, and the cost <br />for the department to the average tax payer amounted to 15.4 <br />cents per person per day. <br /> <br />New obligations included in 3.2% - fuel and energy consumption <br />increase; gymnastic center cost share with school district $30K; <br />revenue loss for extended shut down period $60K; $25K increase <br />in PIP. <br /> <br />Mr. Brokke reviewed and expressed appreciation for the <br />
