REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> Date: 05/14/12 <br /> Item No.: 12.d <br />Department Approval City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Adopt a Comprehensive Performance Management Program <br />B <br />ACKGROUND <br />1 <br />At the 3/12/12 and 4/9/12 City Council meetings, the Council discussed the merits of adopting a <br />2 <br />comprehensive Performance Management Program. A Performance Management Program would <br />3 <br />incorporate the various initiatives the City has undertaken in the past several years that were designed to <br />4 <br />improve the effectiveness and sustainability of day-to-day operations while ensuring that the City’s long- <br />5 <br />term goals are met. <br />6 <br />7 <br />These initiatives include; a 20-year visioning process, strategic planning, citizen survey, performance <br />8 <br />measurement, goal-setting, and a number of long-term financial and non-financial planning exercises. The <br />9 <br />initiatives are consistent with governmental best practices. <br />10 <br />11 <br />At the conclusion of these discussions, the Council iterated its support for formally adopting a Performance <br />12 <br />Management Program.
