Carolyn Curti
From: Jenny Lindberg
Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 6:11 PM
To: Carolyn Curti
Subject: discussion of HRC resolution
To the mennbers of #he Human Rights Commission,
As a citizen of Roseville, and a lesbia,r in a committed relationship, I am hopeful ihat you will make a public
statement denouncing the proposed Minnesota constitutional ban of gay marriages. I feel that as a commission
whose purpose is to advocate for the civil riglts of all Roseville citizens, your responsibility in this matter is
quite clear.
Proponents of this amendment will say that the people of Minnesota need to decide the def nition of which
consenting adults can or cannot have their marriages recognized by the government of Minriesota. In the past,
those who wished to limit the CNIL rights of others have used the same argument. What if majority rule had
decided the outcome of segregation laws or voting rights in the deep south?
Because the government of Minnesota allows for the differential treatrrent of citizens based on marital status,
then the ability to have that status should be offered to those consenting adults who wish to marry one another,
regardless of sexual orientation. To allow otherwise is to deny those consenting adults thcir civil rights.
As a citizen of Roseville, I ask you, on bchalf of myself, rny partner, and all the other citizens of Roseville who
desire equality under the law, please speak out against the amendment to outlaw gay marriage. Please help
Minnesota to move forward, toward equality for all in its Iaws. Thank you.
Jennifer Lindberg
