OUR CHARGE:
The Civic Engagement Task Force was established by the Roseville Human Rights
Commission in pursuance of its charge from the Roseville City Council to "increase the
sense of community by reaching out to all members of the community and ensuring that
our city government and its activities, programs, and services are accessible,
understandable, and responsive to all." (City Code, Chapter-2 04.03)
We Believe:
Civic participation is vital to democracy.,It takes many forms: individual voluntarism,
volunteering on city commissions and committees, involvement with neighborhood
groups or non-profit organizations and participation in elections and governmental
processes. When residents are actively involved, civic decisions themselves are more
likely to reflect and serve the needs and wishesof the community. Roseville residents
are invested in their community. The purpose of this report into make recommendations
to the Roseville City'Council for enhancing and increasing.civic engagement within all
sectors of Roseville s-diverse cgmmunity.
Why-Civic Engagement:
The engagement of citizens creates, more effective government and more sound
decisions Civically-engaged citizens=have a stronger sense of community. Citizens
have knowledge of established community networks and resources that can assist the
city getting information out quickly, efficiently, and economically. Demonstrating a
commitment to civic engagement on the part of government helps dispel public cynicism
and connect citizens more closely to their government, as well as allowing them more
resources for authentic grass roots neighborhood planning.
Our Process:
We began as a subset of the Human Rights Commission and from there sought to add
members to the Task Force attempting to balance the representation as much as possible
