<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 09/23/02 <br />- Page 11 <br /> <br />single stream collection, at which time the Council decided to <br />extend the current recycling contract for one (1) year, to allow <br />more research. Mr. Boyum stated that the cities of <br />Robbinsdale, Hastings, Hopkins, and Circle Pines have all <br />adopted single stream collection systems. Mr. Boyum <br />recognized the excellent work done by the RSW ARCAC, <br />stating that with over 6,000 multi-family units, it would be <br />difficult to identify usage implications. Mr. Boyum suggested <br />another one (1) year extension of the current contract, and <br />implementation of a pilot program to determine increased <br />usage with a single stream system. <br /> <br />Dave Weidenfeller, BFI <br />Mr. Weidenfeller urged a cautious approach about a single <br />stream system for collection; stating that only one vendor, <br />Waste Management, offered the system due to additional costs <br />for retrofitting processing sites. :LvIr. Weidem asked that the <br />City issue Requests for Proposals (RFP's) for a two-sort <br />system. <br /> <br />Kysylyczyn amended his original motion to direct staff to <br />solicit bids allowing for current and new levels of service, with <br />those options and prices to be weighed at future meetings; <br />multi-family complexes be inclusive in bidding requirements; <br />with alternative (i.e., single sort) levels of service included in <br />bids; and that this information be provided to staff, and <br />forwarded to the Public Works and Transportation Commission <br />for evaluation prior to forwarding to the City Council for <br />action. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn further clarified the motion to include <br />provision for a single stream pilot proj ect, and further <br />information brought forward. Second by Kough. <br /> <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Maschka, Schroeder, Kough, Klausing and <br />Kysylyczyn. <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br />D.
