Regular City Council Minutes - 09/30/02 Page 7 City Manager Beets again requested that the petition be read out loud. Mayor Kysylyczyn asked City Manager Beets if he would address the pager issue; with Mr. Beets responding affirnlatively. Mayor Kysylyczyn provided City Manager Beets with the petition to be read out loud, which Mr. Beets did at that tinle. Sumlnarizing, the petition's cover letter stated that, as proud and dedicated nlenlbers of the Roseville Volunteer Fire Departnlent, sacrificing fanlily and leisure time to risk lives and perfonn duties, were concerned about the future or their departnlent and the comnlunity as a whole. The letter further stated, in summary, that while the City continues to face nlany unknowns, in order to meet these challenges, those signing the petition were asking for the City Council's assistance, and respectfully requested that Councihnembers come together by setting their differences aside in order to allow the City of Roseville to be a viable place to live and work. The cover letter was accompanied by approxinlately 40 - 50 signatures of fire departnlent volunteer menlbers. Mayor Kysylyczyn questioned City Manager Beets regarding the nunlber of letters he estinlated that City Hall received written on city time and in city-owned facilities. City Manager Beets responded that nlost letters received at City Hall would come from residents, not from city employees. City Manager Beets expressed admiration for the solidarity shown by the department's personnel in putting aside their differences in working toward a common goal. Mayor Kysylyczyn continued in the opinion that the letter contained a political bent; reiterated concerns about letters or petitions being done on city tinle and property. City Manager Beets respectfully disagreed with the Mayor's assumption of the petition containing a political bent; stated that he would review the Mayor's concerns
