<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 09/30/02 <br />Page 7 <br /> <br />City Manager Beets again requested that the petition be <br />read out loud. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn asked City Manager Beets if he would <br />address the pager issue; with Mr. Beets responding <br />affirnlatively. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn provided City Manager Beets with the <br />petition to be read out loud, which Mr. Beets did at that <br />tinle. Sumlnarizing, the petition's cover letter stated that, <br />as proud and dedicated nlenlbers of the Roseville <br />Volunteer Fire Departnlent, sacrificing fanlily and leisure <br />time to risk lives and perfonn duties, were concerned <br />about the future or their departnlent and the comnlunity as <br />a whole. The letter further stated, in summary, that while <br />the City continues to face nlany unknowns, in order to <br />meet these challenges, those signing the petition were <br />asking for the City Council's assistance, and respectfully <br />requested that Councihnembers come together by setting <br />their differences aside in order to allow the City of <br />Roseville to be a viable place to live and work. The cover <br />letter was accompanied by approxinlately 40 - 50 <br />signatures of fire departnlent volunteer menlbers. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn questioned City Manager Beets <br />regarding the nunlber of letters he estinlated that City Hall <br />received written on city time and in city-owned facilities. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets responded that nlost letters received at <br />City Hall would come from residents, not from city <br />employees. City Manager Beets expressed admiration for <br />the solidarity shown by the department's personnel in <br />putting aside their differences in working toward a <br />common goal. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn continued in the opinion that the letter <br />contained a political bent; reiterated concerns about letters <br />or petitions being done on city tinle and property. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets respectfully disagreed with the <br />Mayor's assumption of the petition containing a political <br />bent; stated that he would review the Mayor's concerns <br />
