Brokke. Lonnie

From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:

Caitlan L. McLoon [mclo0006@tc.umn.edu]
Thursday, November 07,2002 1 :23 AM
lonnie.brokke@ci.roseville.mn.us
Caitlan's Responses for Meeting

Dear Commissioners/Council Members,

I apologize for being unable to attend today's joint meeting. I received
the questions we were to discuss, and so I will try to address them here so
that hopefully you can receive a copy of my answers. I admit that I do not
have much experience in planning buildings, or even in organizing such a
large undertaking, but I hope my responses can be helpful anyway.

-What are the next steps?
The Commission has been discussing this issue for quite some time now, and
I think that more discussions without action will get us nowhere. We have
community input and we know what sort of a space we are interested in, so
the next step would be to compile the results, and choose which features we
want (in this step I would suggest not worrying about practicallity, choose
what we would want in an ideal situation and only cut ideas later). When
we have a list of the desired features, we should consult an architect,
receive estimates and then, if neccessary, choose would items should stay
or go. (I apologize if all of this has already been done, I do not know
exactly where we stand on the project.)

-What organizational approach?
Frankly, I do not know how to answer this question. Sorry!

-Timeline?
If we had a list of the features on hand, we consulted someone, and narrowed
the list to a feasible price range, the process would take care of itself.
I hope the center could be completely done in five years, but again, I have
no concept of how reasonable this estimate is. By summer I should hope we
have a rough plan and only need to procure funds.

-Who will be responsible?
It seems to me that the Parks and Rec Commission has been leading the
planning so far, so it should also be responsible for its continuation.
Because of the size of this project it will be absolutely neccessary for
constant participation between the City Council and the group directly
working on the project.

I hope you find these answers interesting or helpful. I look forward to
talking with you soon.

Thank you,
Caitlan McLoon

1
