[implement] Installing signs to aid residents in the proper <br />disposal of leaves at the compost site would alleviate s�me <br />of the confusion expressed by residents using the site. <br />b. [implement] The Parks and Recreation Director has suggested <br />that the staff landscape engineer develop a plan that <br />screens the co�npost site fram �vi.sitors to the Nature Center. <br />This recommendat�on should be implemented. <br />c. [requires further study] It has been suggested that access, <br />not pax-king, in and out of the compos� site, is the problem. <br />It is recommended that if, indeed, this is the case, a plan <br />be developed and implemented ta ease this concern. <br />d. [requires further study] Suitable drainage is a problem <br />that requires further study in order to alleviate the <br />cancerns associated with standing water. <br />e. [implement] Staft should be directed to remave noncompost <br />materials from the siie. <br />Reconunendation 4: Improve the finishad compost ta enhance its <br />quality and marketability by keepinq out foreiqn materials. <br />Response: [implement] Staff has increased efforts in recent <br />years to reduce the presence of foreign materials in the compost, <br />and it is recommended that they continue these effarts. Given <br />the quantity of compost that exists in the Metro Area, it is <br />unlikely that a market exists. <br />oRDrxArrcES : <br />Recommendatian l: City ordinances currently in effect concerning <br />waste/trash should be reviewed, and updated as necessary to <br />reflect new �equirements. Changing State laws require that the <br />City update its ordinances ta ref�ect current yard waste regula- <br />tions. ' <br />Response: [implement] A cursory review of the related ordi- <br />nances indicate they are in need of revisions. For example: <br />o Dum in of Rubbish. New restrictians placed on the <br />disposal of yard waste have resulted in increased cost and <br />raised concerns about illegal dumping. This ordinance <br />should be reviewed and revised to address these concerns. <br />
