Community identity, then, is not a serious issue for the city. <br />Volunteer Pragrams: <br />Interviewees were asked a pair of questions abaut their <br />awareness of and participation in city-sponsored volunteer <br />pragrams. First, knowledge was measured: <br />How much knowledqe do you have of <br />current city-sponsored volunteer pro- <br />qrams -- a great deal, some, little, <br />or none at all? <br />A large majority of residents knew "little" or "none at all" <br />abaut these programs: <br />A GREAT DEAL ....................•--........4� <br />SOME ......................................25� <br />LITTLE ....................................37% <br />NONE AT ALL ...............................34$ <br />DON'T KNOW/REFiJSED .........................1� <br />Less than thirty percent felt they knew either "a great deal" or <br />"some" about those programs. <br />Knowledge was higher among: <br />* Retirees <br />* Over 65 year olds <br />Information levels were lower among: <br />* �tenter� <br />* 3-5 year residents <br />* Owner--Manager households <br />* 18-24 & 45-54 year olds <br />* $12,500-$25,Od0 yearly income households <br />One group which feels uninformed is noteworthy: 45-54 year olds <br />are the foundation of many volunteer programs.
